According to an article from the Friends’ Central School, “Some children learn best by looking at visuals. Some children learn best by listening to a parent or teacher speak. And some children learn best by reading and writing about something. These are called visual, auditory, and reading/writing learning styles, respectively. But there is a fourth learning style that is easy to overlook: Kinesthetic learning, which is a fancy way of saying “learning by doing.” Students with special needs often avoid answering questions in class because they fear being bullied by peers for their disabilities whether it’s from a speech impairment or a learning disability. With the use of these tables students have a way to communicate with peers and teachers without the risk of being embarrassed by speaking out in front of the whole group. Hands-on opportunities will be used to promote the retention of basic educational concepts, and foster reading and math skills. Students will excel because they will have more access to hands-on approaches to learning.

According Maryville University “Learning how to use the mouse is the most basic computer skill, but it is also one of the most important to learn.” My students have Chromebooks provided by the district in our 1:1 initiative. These chromebooks are hard for my students to navigate and use effectively because they have limited use of technology which is not touch screen. The Chromebooks all have a mouse pad which most students have difficulty understanding how to use fine motor skills to operate. This device will not only incorporate a vital skill needed to operate a computer but will also fine tune motor skills for students as they enter into school. With the devices purchased with this grant my students will build skills to be independent technology users in the future. I will post updates with pictures and projects completed to The Promising Practices Holler throughout the school year. Projects completed using the innovative technology will be shown on display during Parent Teacher Conferences and shared on social media. My innovative technology data will be shared within my district at staff meetings and Professional Development. I am eager to attend and present at this year’s virtual fall and spring FIRESummit’s.
