Water vs Dirt: Which One Will Win

I would like to set up an aquaponics system within the classroom for my students to observe, maintain and discover the relationship between plants and animals. I also want to have a small greenhouse inside so that the class can compare the growth rate of plants using water versus dirt. There are some features that I would like to add to the outside classroom, since our gardening thus far has been outside, and I still want to continue this type of gardening with my students. One feature will be fruit trees. I would like to add an outdoor sorting table, chalkboards, and items for the students to use for observing and documenting the growth and life cycle of plants. I would also like for my students to use an I-pad for documenting their activities, researching and discovering new information, and engaging in apps that support their knowledge of life cycles and correlations in nature. A webcam will be used to document the growth of plants and fish not only in the aquaponics system but also outside in our garden so that students can observe whether they are in the classroom learning or learning from home.
