Lap Quilts for Hospice

Powerpoint Presentation

Powerpoint

1. What is your problem of practice in implementing a blended learning environment?

To include in-person and remote learning To use valuable math skills to create 20-25 Lap quilt for Hospice.

2. What strategy will you implement this year to address the problem?

Hospice patients are suffering through fears of the unknown and sometimes a small quilt will bring them comfort to know that someone cares enough about them their time and knowledge on something for them. We will increase our knowledge of measurements especially with fractions.

3. What resources and personnel do you need to implement your strategy?

We will need to purchase fleece material, learn to make accurate cuts using a acrylic ruler and scissors. We will also need to use transportation to delivery the lap quilts once they are completed. We will use Remote learning until we are back in school.

4. What research question will guide your study of this innovation?

How can we, as young adults, use math in real-life situations to benefit those around us. I have decided that in this trying time, we could cut and create a quilting kit for the students to receive and complete at home.

5. What outcomes will prove that your innovation has succeeded?

My innovation will be successful when the lap quilts are completed by the students whether at home or at school and then deliver to our local Hospice organization.

6. How will you measure those outcomes?

We will measure the outcomes by connecting our math skills with real-life situations and understand how Math is essential in our world. We will also measure the outcome by seeing and knowing that others will appreciate these quilts

7. How can you be sure that any positive outcomes on these measures are actually due to your innovation and not something else?

We can be sure that a positive outcome is achieved when we deliver the completed quilts to our local Hospice organization and know that they will bring comfort to those who are experiencing fears and pain of the unknown.

Powerpoint Presentation

Powerpoint

1. What is your problem of practice in implementing a blended learning environment?

To use our previous Math knowledge to create raised Garden/Flower beds for the Nursing home.

2. What strategy will you implement this year to address the problem?

We will use a variety of math strategies to increase our knowledge of applying these skills to real-life situations that will give others enjoyment.

3. What resources and personnel do you need to implement your strategy?

We will need wood, circular saw, lag bolts, stain, cordless screw drivers, screws, transportation and the support of administration.

4. What research question will guide your study of this innovation?

My research question is how to continue to improve my student’s math skills and allowing them the opportunities to make a connation with real-life situations.

5. What outcomes will prove that your innovation has succeeded?

We will know that this project is successful once the raised beds are completed and delivered to the Geriatric Center and the local hospital.

6. How will you measure those outcomes?

We will measure these outcomes by the completion of 4 raised garden/flower beds and have them delivered to the Geriatric Center and KRMC.

7. How can you be sure that any positive outcomes on these measures are actually due to your innovation and not something else?

We can be sure that the positive outcome will happen because of our innovation by allowing the students to participate in not only the creating but also the delivering to these facilities. They can see them being useful for years.
