Students have been introduced to the basic elements of drama. They have studied and reviewed the basic elements of drama and implemented them with numerous stories. Students have deconstructed plays, books, and short clips from movies using the elements of drama. They have critiqued works, while analyzing the three elements of drama: performance, literary, and technical. Students will use the background knowledge to assess the upcoming play Percy Jackson:TheLighteningThief. Students will watch the performance at Eastern Kentucky University’s Center for the Arts.Students will read the book in their Reading class and study the different elements of the book using the Common Core Standards. Students will then perform a shortened version of the play in their Arts and Humanities class. Finally, students will write a short paper comparing and contrasting the play in their Writing class. Students will use all 3 works to differentiate the opposing author’s views and their interpretations of the individual works. By watching the play, students will be able to see the play and the book come to life.
