Though the Eyes of a Child

With this grant I have purchased skylight covers for my classroom to help with the problems caused by fluorescent lights. Many times classroom lighting is an overlooked factor for children’s success in school. Studies have shown that lighting plays a very crucial role in how well children perform in the classroom. Some issues that have been related to fluorescent lighting are migraines, eye strain, endocrine disruption or poor immune systems, stress, anxiety, ADHD, and many more. With my new skylight covers, I hope to see a difference in my classroom attendance, behavior, grades, and just the whole classroom atmosphere in general. There are things you can do to help other than the skylight covers I have for example getting out in the sunlight more. We only get a 25-minute recess and not always outside so as a first-grade teacher I am hoping the skylight covers with be an added way to improve my students’ overall educational experience in my classroom.
