Fostering Self-Expression Thru Technology

9-12

With the budgets cuts many schools face, smart board devices are usually delegated to only core classes. With today’s technologically savvy students, enthusiasm is lacking with teaching techniques from the past, such as lecture type settings where students are gazing at textbooks laden with text and pictures to which they can’t have a human connection. Furthermore, in traditional classroom settings, the teacher is placed up front tied to a desktop computer in order to display information on a screen. The opportunity for circulating the room, increased interaction and student engagement is lost. Therefore, I have proposed placing a large screen tv, Apple tv and iPad in my classroom to allow students to interact by using their technological devices to enhance their Arts & Humanities experience all the while fostering creativity through self-expression.
