Kids Can Code, Too!

October 2016 Presentation:

How can we teach our students to be creative problem solvers using technology? Coding has become very popular recently because of the long-lasting skills it instills in our children. Coding helps our students think differently and use problem-solving skills to overcome obstacles. The combination of real robots, along with coding skills, inspires children to use their imagination and build confidence as they understand how things around them work. The Wonder League sponsors clubs internationally and uses robots Dash and Dot to encourage students to learn through play. These clubs participate in a robotic competition where they design solutions to real-world science and technology challenges. This year’s theme is Saving the Environment. Students will learn about important issues facing the world around them. Students will meet after school weekly and compete with each other to see who is able to advance through the challenges given to them. This will prepare them to take part in the World League Competition. Progress will be documented each week to see if they understand the coding process. Students will use the robots to present to other students in the school to encourage their interest in coding and they will also present to the faculty and parents. Hopefully, this will inspire more students to take part and the program will continue to grow. Through participating, the students will develop creative problem solving skills, along with teamwork skills, which will help them succeed in today’s digital world and prepare them for the jobs of tomorrow.
