Biography

We have made learning in 1st grade personal through project-based learning. “Sweet Tweets” is an entrepreneurial project that can be used for all grade-levels and adjusted to meet specific content needs. Students design, create, market and sell their own product to members of the school and community. Learners begin by reading fiction/non-fiction books about sweets. Our learning is shared through Twitter where students have the opportunity to tweet about what we are learning or new ideas and experiences. Learners meet with experts in the business. Our class visited a local bakery and learned how to make our own sweets with a professional. The final question: Together, how might we “sweeten” school life within our elementary school? This question is the backbone of the student voice agency of our project. Students conduct surveys/interviews through our school Newscast. Together, students vote on a way to use the money earned from our product sales to enhance school and community morale.
