Programming into the Future: Building Robots to Prepare Students for the
Learning Innovation Grant Recipient
My 7th and 8th grade mathematics students will construct and program robots to accomplish real-world tasks. They will be doing this activity to extend their knowledge and understanding of STEM components and to specifically improve their competency in mathematics. This will also help them become more college and career ready by providing them with experience in the fields of electronics and engineering. Students will use Vex robotics kits to build and program their own robots. They will eventually use the design process with these kits to design and create a unique and original robot of their own.

S.T.A.R.S. Mini Grant RecipientĀ
Students on my Middle Division STARSĀ CmPsĀ team are going to be developing a website and network that helps find homes for shelter animals that are in danger of being euthanized. They read recently about how local animal shelters were becoming overcrowded. Many shelter animals have to be euthanized as a result of this. Students will be working with nearby animal shelters and the local community to develop a website and online network that helps find homes for animals at risk. This network will ideally be sustainable through a partnership with the shelters.

Students on my Junior Division STARSĀ CmPsĀ team are going to be developing and promoting initiatives that promote healthier lifestyles in an effort to improve the health and well being of citizens in our town. They will be working throughout the community holding 5K races and developing materials that provide information about healthy eating and exercise habits. They intend to work with county officials and the local highway department to achieve their ultimate goal of getting bicycle lanes placed on roadways throughout the town.Ā
