Student Voices of Appalachia

Podcasting from the Elementary Classroom Our project is centered on the idea of high quality, engaging, and ultimately effective teaching. In an effort to provide students with a 21st century education, we have decided to implement podcasts in the classroom. Podcasts have the ability to promote communication skills, improve technology skills, reinforce content material, increase deliberation and debate in the classroom, and provide an alternative method for assessment. Students will be able to use their imagination and creativity to put their own personal touches on the podcasts they create. This project will serve 130+ students directly involved in the process of creating podcasts. Students will have the opportunity to create podcasts with academic content in both the math and social studies classroom. With approval, students will also have the opportunity to create podcasts discussing their own unique interests. Our goal with this project is to promote the increase of literacy skills and to increase student engagement through alternative assessments.
