Creative Problem Solving in 3D

Amber Tackett

Providing art students with real life applications for the creative process they are learning in class. Creativity is a valuable skill for employees in the 21st century and I hope to promote those skills in a way that students entering other fields such as STEM can gain experience with creative problem solving in my art classes.

One strategy will be to have STEAM based projects that involve the creative problem-solving skills mentioned above. Students will be presented with a real world problem and will be asked to attempt to solve them in creative and innovative ways. The design of the objects via blueprint will be the initial art component of this activity. Students will also be asked to create a presentation about their solution. By doing projects that relate to STEM, students will see how design thinking isn’t just for artists but other fields that involve problem solving.

If given the grant, I would also love for students to be able to make 3d models of their design ideas. Students would have the ability to work in groups and each group will be given the opportunity to develop their 3d model on the laptop provided by the grant and will then be able to print the model. ·This will promote teamwork, and will reinforce the design thinking to a final and physical project. Doing this would provide students a tangible success for the whole design process.
