The description of this grant matches everything I would love in my classroom. I want to offer blended learning opportunities for students, self-paced learning, and standards-based grading. This is what excites students and amps their motivation. How many times have we seen our bright students starting to lose interest because they know the content already and they want to be a peer tutor all the time? They want the opportunity to expand their learning in fun and exciting ways. How many times have we seen the lower students lose interest because they lose self-esteem and think they just can’t keep up so why even keep trying? When you are able to offer students learning at their instructional levels, it becomes much more meaningful and worth the effort to be engaged and full of inquiry. When you allow students to keep revisiting content and working toward that mastery level, you see the lightbulb go off and their love for learning grows. That is what makes my job the best in the world. That is the learning environment I want to create for my students every day.
