The World at Our Fingertips

Project Summary: “The World at Our Fingertips” is a project that will address the increasingly difficult task of helping students get out and see the world. Through the use of a Google Cardboard virtual reality viewer, Google Expeditions, and an iPod Touch students will be able to take virtual tours of sites around the world. Students will experience places and events beyond the boundaries of traditional field trips. Guided by the teacher, students will explore and learn in a virtual world which will help them gain appreciation and understanding of their world. The research question guiding this study is, “Do virtual field trips help student gain a greater appreciation and understanding of the world around them?” Students will complete pre-Expedition assessments and post-Expedition assessments to help gauge their levels of interest and understanding of each site. The overall goal of “The World at Our Fingertips” is to help students better understand and appreciate the richness of the world around them without leaving the comforts of their own community.
