I think this learning innovation grant would be a huge step to make my ideal classroom a reality. All students should be given the means and opportunity to express themselves through writing, but in a normal classroom environment, that doesn’t always happen. Up until this past year, writing was not taught as its own core class in my school. So often, it is seen as an additional to general ELA content, when in reality, it is its own content area entirely. There are certain skills all writers should have before they leave 8th grade. However, that should not limit 8th grade content. I believe that this learning innovation grant will help me make a difference in the lives of my students by allowing them to work through my content at their own pace by offering scaffolding to those who need it and extensions to those who have mastered the material.
