Second grade students took part in our forestation project involving the American chestnut tree. Students utilized innovative technology within the classroom setting to research various topics that impact the forest ecosystem. Students kept an electronic science journal in Google Docs and created Google Slide presentations to share the information with other students. The class created and maintained an online blog to share the story of their project. The American Chestnut Foundation, Appalachian Regional Reforestation Initiative, Green Forest Works and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife partnered with our class to determine planting sites and proper placement of the blight resistant American Chestnut Trees.
