3D Transition
Our plan with this grant is to implement an on-site simulation of a workplace environment in which students with and without disabilities will collaborate to plan, design, and manufacture various materials engineered with a 3D printer. The majority of the funds for this grant were used to purchase the 3D printer and materials needed. Within the workplace setting, a variety of skills are naturally embedded that any student may need in order to ensure a successful transition into the real-world, including the work force. Skills such as: communication, social, motor, academic, and daily living will be taught individually and as a whole group in the resource room and then transferred to the simulated workplace environment. This collaboration will be with Mr. Jesse Lucas’ class where he will act as the employer/supervisor and I (Mr. Tyler Branham) will act as a vocational rehabilitation job coach among other duties. The manufactured products will be used to create a small retail store in my classroom in which we will sell the items in hopes of recouping enough funds in order to be able to continue purchasing materials for the manufacturing process. My hope is that through this project, students will be able to learn a variety of skills that may lead to a successful transition to workplace environments after high school.
