Hello, my name is Brittany Vires and I am the senior Student Senator at Hazard High School. This is my second year to be a part of the student senate and I am very excited about what we have planned on our senate plan. As the student representative on the Hazard Board of Education, I am proud to be the “Student Voice” for our high school. Three years ago, our ARI Student Senators proposed student representation as one of our goals in our “Plan” and I am now the third student to sit on the board. This and other initiatives will be continued this year as we focus on school culture, academics and community. Just recently, one of our leadership team members did a presentation to the board to include more AP classes at the high school. Highlighting students and staff of the week, and celebrating the success of students continue to be a favorite component of our plan. New this year is the KVEC Student Senate Community Challenge Grant that we received. I am beyond excited to be a part of helping to revitalize downtown Hazard and making Hazard a place that our students will want to return to after college or graduation. We have partnered with community members and organizations to create a new business downtown and to focus on community safety. Our grant, Hazard 606, is two fold and includes The 606 Coffee Shop and The 606 Safety Net, creating 3-D floor plans for first responders. I am honored to be a part of this project that has the potential to positively impact our students, school, and community for years to come!
